The building was intended for Hyatt Tainan, finished construction in 1994. then the developer went bankrupted a year later. Far eastern group bought the building, which also operartes the department store under the hotel. The building is the tallest building in the city, with no upcoming competitor.

It is located right at the back of the Tainan Station, with train direct from the High Speed Rail. The Hotel also provides shuttle bus, with additional routes for the department store below the hotel.

The Shangri-la Tainan is the go-to hotel that I always stay with, I had been staying with Silks Place Tainan for years, which is the newer luxury hotel in the city, never went back after my first stay at this hotel.
Arriving at the hotel the bellhop at the front will assist with your luggage, but there isn’t any staff that assist you to the front desk, so if you are staying at the horizon club level, you could go direct to the two elevator near the front desk, which you could go direct to the horizon club for checkin to avoid the long line at the front desk.
If you spend a lot of time at the pool, I prefer the pool at Silks Place Tainan, which
Shanghai Pavillon is one of the best Chinese restaurant in the city, with uncomparable view from the 38F, tallest in the city. Known for being the favorite restaurant of the Far Eastern Group Chairman, which is also Shanghainese.
the price is around 100~200 USD for a standard room, and 300~400 USD for a 1-bedroom suite.
Compared to Silks Place Tainan, this hotel is rather outdated, which is why I had not considered this hotel in the past.
