Marriott Kaohsiung is the most disappointed hotel that I’ve stayed in years, originally planned for JW Marriott, it even didn’t pass the Marriott Standard at opening, and operated as Great Emperor Hotel. For a 700-key hotel, it has a lobby size about 200-key, it is not even in the city center, sitting right next to a Costco, which could easily explains its location. It is the second Marriott in Taiwan, both being franchised, and operate directly by developer, but two developer have totally different experience, one being one of the oldest luxury hotel in Taipei, one operate two cheap group-travel hotel near their own development area.
Typically if there is a line of more than 5 people, it does not meet the standard.

There is a shopping mall,E Sky Mall, operated by the same developer, which you could get to from the door behind the hotel lobby.
As for the developer, they have a history for ditching the hotel brand and opt for their own branding, and not in a good way. Sure they do operate two other hotel, but by no means they are experience in managing a hotel, even with the assistance from Marriott, they can’t manage the hotel, they can’t manage on their own.
