Grand Hyatt Taipei is part of the Taipei World Trade Center Complex, opened in 1990, by Singapore's Hong Leong Group, which owns the largest hotel group in Asia, the Millennium & Copthorne Hotel Groups and several prestige hotel property across Asia.

At the time of opening it was branded as Hyatt Taipei, later rebranded in 2003 as Grand Hyatt Taipei.

In 2015, Grand Hyatt Taipei was the first hotel in Taipei to launch pet friendly room (up to 25kg).
